Understanding skin prices

A price is meaningful only when you know which item, condition, market and date it describes. CS2Guesser uses a fixed reference so every player faces the same target, even when the market changes during the day.

Our target is a listed offer, not a completed sale

The game uses a dated snapshot of the lowest USD listing from Market.CSGO. An asking price tells you what a seller requested at that moment. It does not establish that a buyer paid it, what you would receive after fees, or what the same item costs on Steam. The source date is shown in the price round and its answer breakdown.

Compare like with like

Check the wear label before guessing. The snapshot selection prefers Field-Tested, then Minimal Wear, Factory New, Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred when the preferred quote is unavailable. The displayed condition is the one actually used; it is not silently converted to Field-Tested.

All reference quotes are normal variants, without StatTrak or Souvenir status. A similarly named StatTrak listing is therefore a different comparison. The catalog groups Doppler phases, so a reference quote must not be interpreted as the value of a particular rare phase. Individual patterns, attached stickers and other instance-specific features are not appraised by this game.

Why wear and variants matter

Wear can change a finish's appearance and the available supply of comparable listings. StatTrak adds a distinct variant and its own set of buyers and listings. These factors can affect price, but there is no fixed multiplier that applies to every finish. For the challenge, always estimate the exact description shown rather than substituting a favorite version of the item.

Read the feedback correctly

Percentage feedback uses the target as the denominator. If the reference is $80 and you enter $100, your guess is 25% high, not 20%. The instruction “go lower” refers to your next guess. Winning requires an absolute difference of no more than 5% of the reference, rounded down to a whole cent.

For a reference of $12.34, 5% is 61.7 cents. The game uses 61 cents, so the accepted range is $11.73–$12.95. Values exactly at those boundaries win. A duplicate amount does not consume another attempt.

A stable puzzle can use an older price

Quotes are not fetched anew every time a player opens a round. This protects a shared challenge from moving targets. It also means a correct current-market estimate might miss an older snapshot. Read the displayed date and treat the game as a knowledge challenge, not a live valuation service. Archive rounds use this same published snapshot, not a claim about the actual market on the selected archive date.

After your sixth guess

The answer breakdown shows the exact reference price, accepted range, your closest attempt and its difference. It also repeats the quoted condition and source date so you can understand the result. Use it to distinguish an arithmetic mistake from a mistaken assumption about the item's variant.
